What should be done?
How exactly would the rabbitz on warrenz be merged with 4dopt? Like, wouldn't it have too many rabbits? What if they were merged the other way around? Because 4dopt does have a lot of good features, but it feels a little too free to me.
They would be set in the most inobstrusive way one breed per explore area should be good enough. Im pretty sure we can space them out and we can set them to be kinda rare to encounter without them being impossible to find And keep the rare ones on their month (Alien in septemver, jackalopes in december, etc)
Perhaps a silly concern, we would get a warning before this happened, yes? I have a tendency to hoard, collect items to use on project buns, and it sounds like the items themselves won't transfer over, just turning into 4adopt site currency/PTS? So if I have project buns and I want them to transfer as overlays I need to do them /now/. Correct? Ahhh, that's a little stressful, if so. Despite all this I'm definitely in support of a merge. Even if the slate got wiped completely clean real life comes first, you have to take care of you first!
I'm really not a fan of the 4dopt idea. Removing the mendellian genetics would remove one of the main reasons I'm here. I'm not interested in another generic pet adoption site, and the user upload aspect doesn't interest me at all. I'm here for cute rabbits, battles, and a real genetics system I can play with.
because 4dopt doesnt use items to recolor/customize the look of existing adopt, you'd need to do it now, correct However, we can open the recoloring of the new rabbit breeds/species so everyone can customize them freely After that we could either close the recolor permissions or keep them open. If we choose to merge, we will think more about this.
Another option if we merge would be to keep warrenz up and just keep it running and stable for players who want the site to stay the way it is. It wouldn’t get updated as much as switching ownership though since I still wouldn’t have time for anything more than keeping it stable
As for how the process would work, there would be plenty of heads up ahead of time and the whole process will happen over the course of at least a year. staff will have a form post up for players can request the transfer, or we will have a transfer machine on site, and players will be able to do that whenever they feel up to it. We could continue to leave warrenz.net up for following years if players still want the old site to stay up.
if you decide to look for new ownership, will the site still be running and stable in the meantime?

Yeah the site should still stay up. What the new owner does, I won’t be able to control, but I don’t plan on taking it down as of now (I typically only take things down if there are serious bugs that could cause player losses).
and if the site would still be up and running i would be happy to at least help moderate it

i dont really know how the site functions, but im a fast learner. i would love to help keep the site progressing in some way, like continuing to make stuff for the site or work on the coding, but i can also just keep news posts up to date on simple things, whatever you guys would want! edit // i am familiar with html and css lol

I'm on 4dopt too and I like it but wish it had more complex genetics, so I'd be disappointed if a merger meant simplifying the genetics. I'd be more OK with a third option of it being possible to add more complex genetics options to 4dopt even if that possibility was in the far future. I'd be more excited about the possibilities of uploading my own species to 4dopt too with more genetics possibilities. Finding Warrenz was a dream come true for me. I don't care about the battle system as much as some do. I personally haven't spent as much time breeding Warrenz rabbits as I'd like to because I don't like needing to level grind them. I've wanted a pet breeding game with realistic genetics for such a long time I've considered making my own. I'm not near able to do it on my own but I am learning to code and would be interested in trying to help in some way if there's a possibility of adding more genetics possibilities to 4dopt. I've seen educational games about genetics that don't get nearly as in-depth as Warrenz genetics. Have you ever considered pitching ideas to educational or charity groups for funding?
Thank you for all of the suggestions and offers for help. It has been my goal to add all of the same features from warrenz to 4dopt. I’m not totally sure if we will be able to get all of them in, as listed in the news, but will keep working on this. I have actually talked to pet groups and they wanted charity from me, not the other way around. Unfortunately while I would love to donate to charity, I don’t have any money for that.
Keeping up with coding, event updates, artwork updates, and staff management is definitely too much for me with three websites. I can handle two websites much better. I feel like warrenz has been getting neglected lately and want to make sure that things don’t stay that way. either by selling it to someone else or merging two of the websites together. I cannot guarantee that a new owner will continue to develop and work on the site like I am hoping, but I definitely don’t have time for all three in their current state. Ideally the new owner would need to know some PHP, or be willing to learn. I have tried to train and get help from volunteers, but sadly didn’t have enough time to do this either. I also can’t afford to hire anyone to do this. Plus there’s the staff management aspect. It’s just a lot with three different websites.
I personally love the game and would be sad with both options.
We are considering a 3rd option right now, but will depend on the pool: That is, open up transfers (account exp, rabbits, money) but leave warrenz "as is" for people who don't want to move. --- We can do this untill server costs get a too much, it becomes a ghost town or we find a buyer, whatever comes first. But we wouldn't be able to make new features, new bases or markings as staff. Art volunteers are a "maybe" right now. We don't know if we'd keep them up.
If Warrenz ever disappears, I will be sad. I'll be glad I can keep my rabbit art and genetics on 4dopt, but I'll lose all the funny explore dialogues written here. I don't think the text was kept on 4dopt. But it seems I rarely see people online anymore, so it might keep costs downs, but I worry one day someone might decide it's no longer worth it to keep the server up anymore.
